This fall has been terrific; we’ve had some beautiful weather and I’ve celebrated a milestone. The 15th of October marks the 7th anniversary of my starting work on Lynn Johnston’s For Better or For Worse website. As a fan of comic art, I could not have chosen a job that was more fun or more challenging.
One of the things I’ve been most proud of is the searchable online catalog that showcases more than 11,000 of Lynn’s strips. The catalog started out as 3 separate Microsoft Access databases that were originally built for internal use, but which I thought could be adapted into something really entertaining and rich in features. Over the last year or so, I’ve converted the original databases into MySQL format and written thousands of lines of code to organize, administrate and inventory the vast amount of art that’s now stored on Lynn’s web server, making the catalog a handy public resource – and a lot of fun to browse. I hope you’ll check it out.
