New Microsite: Lake Nipissing Cottage Rentals

By , January 30, 2012 2:57 pm

Our client and friend Jan Gordon asked for a micro-website to showcase the cottage she’s got available to rent. AloeRoot quickly built this one-pager to show off the great local landscape and the facilities – and we highly recommend this place if you’re interested in a quality vacation cottage rental!

It’s that time again; a new version of WordPress has been released, so our clients with WordPress sites can expect a full backup and upgrade to occur over the next few days.

“Experienced users will appreciate the new drag-and-drop uploader, hover menus for the navigation, the new toolbar, improved co-editing support, and the new Tumblr importer. We’ve also been thinking a ton about what the WordPress experience is like for people completely new to the software. Version 3.3 has significant improvements there with pointer tips for new features included in each update, a friendly welcome message for first-time users, and revamped help tabs throughout the interface. Finally we’ve improved the dashboard experience on the iPad and other tablets with better touch support.”

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

Internet Explorer 9 and WordPress

If you operate a WordPress-based website and you’ve recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 (known as “Internet Exploder” by the staff at my favourite ISP), you might begin experiencing some problems writing or editing pages and posts. This is not a WordPress bug; it appears to be an issue with Internet Explorer 9.

The key to solving this is to run Internet Explorer in “compatibility mode” while it’s on your website. You can do this by logging into your WordPress admin area, pressing the Alt key on your keyboard and choosing Tools -> Compatibility View from the menu that appears.

I’d like to respectfully suggest that you try Mozilla Firefox instead, though, as it’s proven to be a much better browser – or Firefox’s competitor, Google Chrome.

Lynn, creator of the comic strip For Better or For Worse, was asked why she puts so much effort into her website. Here’s her very interesting answer (and I don’t mind admitting I was very pleased to be called a “smart cookie”. :-)
